You know it's urgent when I decide to donate

The Trump tribe abides

Ihate giving money to politicians. Mostly because I’m cheap, but also because I always thought the best way to support a candidate was simply to vote for them.

The problem is that certain corporations and billionaires and super PACs don’t need to vote. All they have to do is unleash a tsunami of cash every couple of years and trust that the resulting tsunami of lies will convince about half of Americans to vote against their own best interests. So far that’s worked pretty well.

So, yeah, I just sent a few bucks to Kamala Harris’ campaign. That might be counterproductive; experience has taught me that any time I have money on the line, the outcome will be the exact opposite of what I dearly desire. It’s been that way with athletic events and pop-culture betting pools and – with few exceptions – elections at any level.

Still, just showing up to vote doesn’t seem like enough. Not this year. Not with Trump and J.D. MiniTrump and all the MAGA fellow travelers doubling down on the same scary misanthropy that cost them the election in 2020.

You thought they were racist and misogynistic before, watch them in the coming weeks. They’re running against a woman again, and she ain’t exactly white. It’ll get ugly. Well, more ugly. My great hope is that it will get so ugly that American women, and a lot of us American men, will be even more motivated to show these creeps that there is in fact a limit to how low they can go.

What a thought. Anyway, if a cheapskate like me is finally willing to donate, maybe a lot of others are too. Whatever it takes, that’s my view. Trump and his cynical posse of power whores and ass-kissers can never again be allowed within 100 miles of the White House.

You’ve heard of Project 2025, right? They’re not kidding. They want to remake this country in their own sneering image and they believe they have a pretty good shot at winning.

We’ll see. I’m not going to make a habit of sharing my meager income with politicians, but if there were ever a time to step up against MAGA, that time is now.
